London's Alexandra Palace is to get a £30m facelift, to develop it into a major venue for live events, a visitor attraction, and retail space.
Alexandra Palace, the famous north London landmark, was built in 1873 and was originally called The People's Palace. It was burnt down a few days after opening, but a new Palace was built soon after. The Palace is currently used for weddings and exhibitions.
Keith Holder, of Alexandra Palace and Park, said: 'This is a once in a generation opportunity to secure the investment Alexandra Palace needs to justify its place in Londoners' affections, to ensure it is a landmark that continues to attract Londoners in large number and to make it a place that everyone in the capital can be proud of.'
Plans for the restoration Alexandra Palace will be unveiled later this week.
