The Royal Shakespeare Company left its London audiences high and dry when they decided to desert the Barbican almost four years ago. Now, the company has found not one, but three London homes.
The RSC have made entered into an agreement with Sir Cameron Mackintosh to use three of his London venues for the next five years. This will mean that London's theatregoers will have a RSC season every year for the next five years.
The first season will run for four months from December and will see the RSC based at the Novello Theatre (formally the Strand). It will be a season of Shakespeare's comedies, which will transfer from Stratford-Upon-Avon.
Sir Cameron has committed to the following four years, handing over The Novello or The Aldwych and The Albery for seasons of equal length.
During this time the RSC will continue to search for a permanent London base and plans to have completed a new theatre at its home Stratford.
Public booking for the forthcoming comedies season opens on 1 October 2005. Box Office: +44 (0) 870 609 1110
