More than half of London's foreign visitors think the city should host the 2012 Olympic Games, a survey says.
Almost 600 people leaving London from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports were interviewed for the BAA Why London? survey in January 2005. They were asked various questions such as where they thought the Games should be held and why.
The survey found that 50% of French nationals and 54% of Americans said London was their preferred choice. Paris came third with only 12% of visitors saying they thought the city should host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Mick Temple, Managing Director of BAA Heathrow, said: 'The BAA 'Why London?' survey shows the capital is the clear favourite among international travellers passing through Heathrow. Our survey shows that no other competing city has as much support as London, and that when a visit to the capital is on offer, alongside the chance to see the Olympic Games, London is a winning combination.'
Let's hope the IOC inspection committee, in town this week, agree with them.
