Only Tokyo and Osaka are ahead of London in the world rankings, but nothing can top it in Europe, according to the annual study of 144 cities by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. To come up with their rankings, Mercer looked at transport, entertainment and food along with housing and clothing.
Moscow was fourth, Seoul fifth; New York remains the costliest city in the US and Sydney the most expensive in Australasia. Of the other UK cities included, Glasgow 40th most expensive city in the world, with Birmingham 47th.
