London has been dubbed the best place to eat in the world by
'Gourmet', America's leading food magazine. It says restaurants in London are far superior to those in Paris, Rome and New York.
The magazine, which has a circulation of more than a million, has devoted its entire March issue to dining in London. The editors of Gourmet, who were in London recently to sample its food, said they were 'blown away' by the city's food and its restaurants.
John Willoughby, Gourmet's executive editor, said: 'We came to London because we had been hearing about great chefs and great products. We were hoping to find good food, but we didn't expect to find so much of it. We were blown away. What London has that other cities don't right now is high-quality food at all levels.'
One of the restaurateurs praised in the magazine, Fergus Henderson, chef and owner of St John restaurant in Clerkenwell, said: 'The kind of diversity and gastronomies that you can lay your hands on in London is happening very quickly and very impressively.'
